Archaeological Evaluation

Trial trenching is the main method of archaeological evaluation. This involves excavating trenches in strategic positions in order to assess the potential for further investigation. The position of trenches is determined in order that any potential archaeology is visible in the trench for partial excavation and recording.

It is imperative that the trenches are positioned to provide maximum information for as little cost and disruption as possible and a geophysical survey will be undertaken as a matter of course where possible.
